After a rather mild winter the warmer spring days brought many phone calls which are so appreciated! We hope it is an indication of what is to come this season. Many of the staff will be back this year so we should be off to a good start. Our number one goal is to make your kayaking trip safe, relaxing, and memorable!
We will be opening an hour earlier this year; Thursday, Friday, and Saturday’s at 10 AM to allow families and groups to be able to travel together to the launch site or from the pickup point. We will be wearing masks and ask you to do the same to keep everyone safe. We will also add an additional vehicle this year to provide better service.
We are adding an online reservation portal which will allow you to book a trip and pay for it in advance. This way you know right away if the kayaks are available for your group! We will also be working to offer the consent forms electronically! Watch for all this soon on our website.
You may have noticed that we will not be offering the 2- hour trip from on a regular basis this season. The distance from our kayak barn to the pick-up site had caused bottle necks at times which isn’t fair to our customers, who I might add waited patiently. We will however try to plan days and times we are able to make this available by appointment. The EPA had planned to shut this part of the river down this spring for the clean up project and the Trowbridge Dam removal; that didn’t happen.
And finally, we were not able to offer any special trips last season because we were just too busy during regular business hours. So this year we are planning to offer special trips every other Wednesday! There was a group of women who I hope will come back this season for some special trips! I have a few ideas for trips and am open to you thoughts too!
We hope to see you soon at Plainwell Kayak Company in downtown Plainwell, Michigan!
